What Is The Best Way To Floss?
Flossing should be a part of your everyday dental hygiene routine. By dislodging the food stuck between your teeth with floss, you reduce bacteria and plaque build–up. Gresham Family Dentistry is here to make sure you know how to floss the right way.
First, you want to make sure you have enough floss to use! After all, you don’t want to use the same piece of floss as it gets dirty between all your teeth. Break off a piece of floss between 18 to 24 inches.
Standing in front of a mirror is useful because it helps you see what you’re doing. Twist the loose ends of your floss around your index fingers, leaving about 1-2 inches free to floss with. Gently press the floss between your teeth. Then, move up and down along each side of your teeth. Be careful to avoid pressing the floss into your gums, as it can bruise or scratch them.
When you move on to a new section, be sure to use a clean section of floss as well! This is why it’s recommended a piece that’s 18 to 24 inches long. Be sure to get between each set of teeth, cleaning both sides each time.
