Gold Fillings and Crowns

Gold is still and will always be the “Gold” standard in dentistry.

There are a few different types of gold restorations that can be placed in your mouth; inlays, onlays, and full gold crowns.

Gold Fillings

Gold fillings include inlays and onlays and are composed of an alloy of gold, copper and other metals.

This type of dental filling is usually considered the most durable, lasting 20 years or more. Gold fillings require more than one office visit to place because they require impressions to manufacture at a dental laboratory.

Gold Crowns

It is important to note that with any gold restoration you will need two appointments. The first appointment will be the preparation of tooth for which ever gold restoration you choose. An impression with be taken of the prepped tooth and that will be sent to our lab, where the restoration will be had made over a period of two weeks. A temporary restoration will be placed at that first appointment so there will be no sensitivity in between appointments. You will return in two weeks from the time of the prep to seat the restoration. At this appointment you will not need to be numb.
