Planning Your Daily Oral Health Routine

Planning our your daily oral health routine is important. As we all know, protecting your oral health isn’t as simple as brushing your teeth alone. There are other steps that need to be taken to make sure your mouth stays healthy. Each of the following steps should be part of your daily oral health routine.

Brush Your Teeth

Brush your teeth every day, twice a day, for two minutes at a time. Brush all surfaces of your teeth, including inner surfaces, outer surfaces, and chewing surfaces. Hold your brush at a 45-degree angle point towards the gums.

Floss Your Teeth

Gresham families, make sure you and all your family members floss once a day. Use a 45 cm length of floss wrapped around a finger on each hand. Gently lower the floss between your teeth, and follow the curve of your teeth as you floss. As you move on to a different tooth, be sure to move on to a fresh, clean piece of floss.

Use Mouthwash

After brushing and flossing, rinse your mouth with mouthwash. Swish mouthwash for 30 to 40 seconds then spit it out.

Clean Your Tongue

You can clean your tongue with a toothbrush or with floss. With a toothbrush, use a little bit of toothpaste and brush in circular motions, cleaning as much as you can without gagging. With floss, you can wrap floss around your fingers and use the middle section of the floss to gently scrape your tongue. Follow up with rinsing your mouth with mouthwash. You can also opt to use a tongue scraper, which is used in a similar method as floss.
