How Can I Encourage My Kids To Brush Their Teeth?
One of the many difficult tasks parents face when raising children is instilling good oral health habits in them. One of the best ways you can help your children develop good oral health habits is to start instilling these habits early. Even before your child has their first tooth, you can wipe down their gums nightly with a soft, damp cloth. Switch to a toothbrush when they begin growing teeth and when those teeth start touching begin flossing. As they’re learning to brush for themselves, set a good example for them. If your child sees your brushing and flossing your teeth regularly, they will be more likely to follow that example.
Another tip is to try turning the teeth brushing routine into a game to keep them engaged. Set a timer or use a two-minute hourglass with colorful sand and challenge them to keep brushing until the timer runs out. Play their favorite song while they brush as a way to measure out the two-minute time. Offer incentives, like letting them choose a movie to watch on movie night, or making a sticker sheet for them to mark every time they’ve successfully brushed their teeth.
